My Story

Britten was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago and began singing at a young age. Growing up, she had a natural talent and love for music; her ability to sing landed her first solo recording with Calvin Bridges and the Faith Tabernacle Choir at the age of 19. In subsequent years, during her ex-husband's military career, while stationed in Nashville, she met BET’s host Dr. Bobby Jones. She began singing and touring with him and his choir formerly known as “Nashville." As a result of this opportunity, she worked with many renowned Gospel artists throughout the years. Her voice was heard before thousands as she sang lead during the grand opening of Nashville’s International Airport. In later years, she once again rendered her voice with Gospel singer Minister Byron Cage on the CD project of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. In October of 2013, while pursuing her Master's at Governors State University, she earned the title  "GSU Idol."

While many claim that she is a powerful and anointed singer, some argue that her excellent and brilliant skills as a writer is what set her apart from all others. She credits her experience as a mother and an educator to the rise in her voice as a novelist. She shared her writing skills in the classroom for many years as she taught students the art of writing. She is a published author with an innate ability of conveying engaging stories. Her passion for writing grew when she began matriculating at Craven Community College. Many of her professors there, as well as at Bowie State University, took notice of her writing and they urged her to follow the path of writing—following their advice, she pursued Creative Writing at Chicago State University and obtained her B.A. through the Board of Governors Program. Upon completion of her internship at Third World Press, (publishing home of the late Gwendolyn Brooks), she self-published her first novel, When Does Hell End? The story was written in conjunction with the stage play, MaMa’s Place which later grew into a five-part series. In addition to writing fiction and non-fiction books, her childhood dream was fulfilled when she landed a position at JET Magazine. After the company struggled to stay afloat during the economy's sharp decline in 2008, she took the necessary measure to learn new skills in video production and editing.

Britten's work covers a  vast range of literary works. Both her musical and writing skills are showcased through her stage plays, MaMa's Place, The Mother's Club, Something's in the Vineyard, This Thing Called Love, Finding a Good Thing, and The Gift.

In addition to her literary and singing skills, she recently launched a new talk show, "Can We Please Have a Talk?" This show renders topics that pertains to "Everyday" living which can be viewed on her YouTube Channel.
